general dentistry

In general dentistry, both preventive and restorative approaches work hand in hand. Preventive dentistry aims to stop dental problems from occurring or progressing, while restorative dentistry is employed when dental issues have already arisen. By emphasizing preventive measures, general dentists strive to minimize the need for extensive restorative treatments and preserve the natural teeth for as long as possible. Regular check-ups, cleanings, and oral hygiene education help patients maintain good oral health and reduce the likelihood of needing restorative procedures in the future.

  • Regular dental check-ups: Preventive dentistry emphasises regular dental visits for early detection and treatment of dental problems.

Dental cleanings: Professional cleanings help remove plaque and tartar buildup, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Smile & Co. offers two ways of performing these cleans:

-The traditional scale and clean with an ultrasonic scaler and trophy paste.

-EMS Air Cleaner, the new and technologically advanced way of cleaning. Please note, some contra-indications do apply.

    -Fluoride Treatment

  • The aim of restorative dentistry is to restore the function, aesthetics, and structural integrity of the teeth and mouth. Restorative dentistry is essential when preventive measures are not sufficient to prevent or address dental issues.

This area includes the treatments of Fillings, Fissure Sealants, Dentures, Crowns, Bridges and Implants.

  • Cosmetic dentistry is a branch of dentistry that focuses on improving the appearance of a person's smile. While general dentistry primarily focuses on oral health and the prevention and treatment of dental problems, cosmetic dentistry is concerned with enhancing the aesthetic aspects of the teeth and smile.

Within the Cosmetic Dentistry treatments, we offer: Teeth Whitening, Invisalign or TrioClear, Inlays, Onlays and Veneers.

digital smile design (Dsd)

Digital Smile Design (DSD) is an innovative concept in cosmetic dentistry that utilises advanced digital technology to design and plan a patient's smile makeover. It combines principles of aesthetics, dentistry, and technology to create a customised treatment plan that considers the individual's unique facial features, dental anatomy, and desired outcome.

Here's a brief overview of the process and components of Digital Smile Design:

  1. Digital Imaging: Digital Smile Design begins with capturing high-quality digital photographs and videos of the patient's face, teeth, and smile. These images are taken from various angles to provide a comprehensive view.

  2. Smile Analysis: The digital images are then analyzed by the dentist using specialized software. This analysis includes assessing facial proportions, lip line, tooth shape, size, color, and overall smile harmony.

  3. Smile Design: Using the software, the dentist can digitally manipulate the patient's images to simulate different cosmetic dental treatments and visualize potential outcomes. This allows the dentist and patient to discuss and determine the most suitable treatment plan.

  4. Mock-Up: A physical mock-up or a digital simulation is created to provide a visual representation of the proposed smile design. This allows the patient to preview and evaluate the anticipated results before any actual treatment is performed.

  5. Treatment Planning: Based on the approved smile design, the dentist develops a comprehensive treatment plan that may include various cosmetic procedures such as veneers, crowns, orthodontics, or teeth whitening. The plan takes into account the patient's oral health, budget, and desired timeline.

  6. Collaboration: In Digital Smile Design, communication and collaboration between the dentist, dental laboratory, and other specialists are crucial. The digital images and treatment plan can be shared with the dental team to ensure a coordinated approach.

  7. Implementation: Once the treatment plan is finalized, the dentist performs the necessary cosmetic procedures to achieve the desired outcome. The digital smile design serves as a guide throughout the treatment process, ensuring precise execution.

teeth whitening

Teeth whitening is a cosmetic dental procedure that aims to lighten the colour of natural teeth, making them appear whiter and brighter. It involves the application of a bleaching agent to the teeth to remove stains and discolouration.

It's important to note that teeth whitening may not be suitable for everyone. Here at SMILE & Co. all new patients will need an initial consult with a dentist to evaluate oral health and determine the most appropriate whitening method for individual needs and expectations, the cost of this initial consult is $75.

The initial consult will be treated as a new patient appointment, here the dentist will assess your dental health and determine if you are a suitable candidate for teeth whitening. This appointment is crucial because it allows the dentist to identify any underlying issues or necessary procedures that must be addressed before proceeding with whitening treatment. It ensures that your dental health is considered before beginning the whitening process, making the initial consultation a significant step in determining your eligibility for teeth whitening.
